Your Online Business Failing? What Is Your Business Strategy?

 

Having a business strategy plan or portfolio is essential to any business.  A strategy is like a track to run on.  If you have no strategy and just try to let it happen, it will happen alright, but not in a good way.

If you are failing in your business, that doesn't mean you're a failure.  A failure is someone that gives up after facing a few obstacles.  So refuse to give up and  refuse to fail.  Having an identified business strategy will help you avoid obstacles that may tempt you to give up.

What is a business strategy?  A 'business' is defined as the buying and selling of goods and services.  A 'strategy' is defined as a careful plan or method of achieving an end result. A 'Portfolio' is defined as a folder or book that holds your written plans.  So basically your business strategy portfolio is your carefully defined written strategy for building your business.

Would you start a business without a business plan?  Not if you needed start-up capital from a lending institution.  They won't lend a dime without a business plan.  If you were to invest, say $1,000,000, into a brick and mortar business or franchise, would you have a carefully pre-defined plan as to how you were going to run and build that business?  Of course you would, unless you just have millions to throw away.

So that begs the question.  Why would or do most online marketers get into business without the first idea or clue as to how to build that business?  Probably the reason they got into the online business in the first place was in pursuit of a dream.  A dream of something better.  A dream of more time, more money, more freedom. 

If you have an online business, what is your job description?  If you are in the business of internet marketing, your job description is to sale and promote your product. Plain  and simple.  You promote your product over and over to the best of your ability.  You can do this multiple ways with different advertising methods.  There are free methods, paid methods and social methods.  You can even create an affiliate marketing program and get others to promote your product or products for a commission. Or, you can promote someone else's product as an affiliate.  But, in the end, you are in the business of internet marketing, the promotion and sale of a product.

How does a doctor get paid?  By seeing patients right?  How does a pilot get paid?  By flying planes right?  How does a barber get paid?  By cutting hair right?  The point is if you want to get paid in your business you have to take action.  Pre-defined action with a plan.

If you are in the business of online network marketing do you want to get paid?  Of course you do.  So your job description is simple.  You promote your product or service on a daily basis and teach others to do the same.  Everything in your business plan as an online network marketer should revolve around that statement.  Let me say it again.  Your job description is 'You talk to people everyday about your products or business opportunity and teach others to do the same'.  How you talk to people everyday about your product or service will vary.  But the end result is that if you don't talk to people everyday about your product or opportunity daily your business will not grow and you will not get paid.

So if you are contemplating and online or offline business, develop your business strategy.  Develop that strategy and commit it to writing.  Refer to it often and make necessary changes when needed.  But most importantly, when you face obstacles, don't give up.  Don't ever give up.

Net Neutrality and Your Business

 

What is Net Neutrality?  Net Neutrality is a means of making the internet an equal and level playing field for all. It's the idea that internet providers are obliged to communicate all data consistently and at equal fees. In actuality, this concept has been in practice for some time, but, several providers are campaigning for change.

In 2010, the Federal Communications Commission instituted the "Open Internet Order", which included the following language in order to: "...preserve the internet as an open platform enabling consumer choice, freedom of expression and end user control, competition and the freedom to innovate without permission". If interpreted as intended, this directive:

1.  Mandated Internet Service Providers (ISP) from barring certain online applications or services.

2.  Barred ISP from discriminating, restricting or hindering their competition and other online innovative opportunities.

3.  Stopped ISP from providing preferential treatment to specific sites or services.

4.  Prohibited ISP form deliberately delaying access to certain sides by deliberately slowing speeds to reach them.

5.  Prevented companies from purchasing preferential access from ISP.

In January of 2014, a successful lawsuit brought by Verizon, resulted in the DC District Court's dismissal of the FCC's Net Neutrality Rules. The court's decision stopped short of taking authority over the internet from the FCC, thus affording the agency an opportunity to review and improve their original ruling.

In April, 2014, the reports surfaced claiming the FCC had amended their Net Neutrality Rules. The major change allowed ISP to charge companies for preferential placement and/or treatment if it was considered "commercially reasonable".

The actual disclosure of this policy was made at the FCC's open meeting in May, 2014. The public's opposition was echoed by media and policy makers. Responses will be considered before anything is finalized. While the first round of replies were due July 18th, the public may continue to forward their comments until September 15th, 2014.

In the interest of fairness and the "level playing field" that served as the original goal of this ruling, one important question that must be answered is: How will the new Net Neutrality Rule affect small businesses?

Most small business owners and advisors agree there are three important details to be considered:

Should the ISP initiate payment plans that would most likely include higher fees for faster access, small businesses, start-ups or temporarily struggling businesses would undoubtedly suffer. Obviously, if these business are unable to afford higher prices, their websites and content would be forced to compete with those of the companies who have the funds to pay for faster speeds and premier placement. This could have irretrievable consequences for smaller businesses and possibly force them to close their doors.

Because free video marketing would be directly and seriously impacted by the revised ruling, small businesses that employ promotional videos as a major marketing strategy, would be severely stifled if not totally debilitated. For example, many small businesses use "YouTube" as a means of displaying and or demonstrating their products. This once free option would no longer be available to them.

Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of the original Net Neutrality Law was its ability to support the "entrepreneurial spirit". One individual with drive and vision and an outstanding idea, could possibly maintain the same internet exposure as a large company with a huge budget capable of funding a professional advertising campaign created by a top firm. Everyone would lose, if this opportunity is lost!

That is why it is crucial for small businesses to remain knowledgeable of any changes to the Net Neutrality Rule and be prepared as to how those changes can affect your marketing endeavors, your internet presence and above all...your profitability!

Setting up a home based business with several income streams can be quite intimidating at first. But, after a short learning curve, it's fairly simple.

What is a residual income stream? A residual income stream is nothing more than a downline you have created that duplicates your business and/or business tools that provides you a monthly recurring income. This is the essence of network marketing. On the other hand, if you are simply providing or selling a product to the masses this would be considered internet marketing. A lot of opportunities provide both internet and network marketing within the same system.

The easiest way to setup your residual income business is as an affiliate. An affiliate is simply selling someone else's product and earning a commission. I have outlined the simple steps below.

Step 1. Join some type of network marketing business as an affiliate. The very first step to creating your residual income business is to join some existing online network marketing business. Back in the pre-internet era, you would have the typical hotel conference room meetings where you would join and bring others to join and grow your business. Times have changed. These days there are countless online network marketing programs you can become involved with. Before you get involved, make sure you do your homework and the program you choose is appealing to you and your comfortable with the team, staff and people you will be working with.

Within almost every network marketing program there are monthly fees that you have to pay. This is how the recurring residual income is created and is perpetual. You pay your monthly fee, of which your upline gets a commission, bonus, etc. What I look for in a network marketing company includes who are the founders (owners), pay plan, how long in business, business plan, product, investment, support and training. The income stream can vary within the program as most programs have various upgrades with higher monthly fees.

Step 2. Setup your autoresponder. In order to get your message out to the masses, you need an autoresponder. Some network marketing programs come with built-in autoresponders and turn-key websites to make it easier for the newcomer. If your program does not have a built-in autoresponder there are several great autoresponder companies to choose from (aweber, constant contact, mailchimp, getresponse, gvo, etc.).

When setting up your autoresponder please watch all the video tutorials provided. It is important to personalize your pre-written messages that go out to potential recruits as you grow your business. Some of the better network marketing companies will provide pre-written messages for you to grow your business.

Another income stream here is the monthly fee associated with the autoresponder account. These fees can range anywhere from $15 monthly to $450 and up monthly depending on the size of your list. Your list is simply the number of prospects that have opted in to your opportunity. Your autoresponder then provides follow-up messages to that list (statistics say most opportunity seekers look at an offer 7 times before joining).

Step 3. Traffic & Advertising. In order to grow your business you need traffic. There is paid traffic and free traffic. A lot of the paid traffic sources also have an income stream your earn residual income from. As others join you and your business, they will copy your program and you will earn recurring monthly income as well. The income streams for traffic and advertising can vary depending on the newcomer. If they want to grow fast, generally the will have more paid traffic.

Email Marketing - 7 Magic Power Words

 

Do you have an amazing product  but having trouble getting your emails opened?  Are you having trouble getting other like-minded online marketers engaged in your offer?  It can be frustrating at times.  Every online marketer experiences this at one time or another.  As we know, online marketing is a copy-cat world.  That one idea can take you places you have never dreamed of.

To help you with getting your emails opened try these 7 magic power words in your subject lines.  They helped me increase my email open-rate by over 20%.  As a result, your list should grow much more rapidly.

7 Magic Power Words

1.  Because.  This is a very powerful word.  Why?  Because we all want to know why.  If you know the why, you can figure out the how.  For example, this email subject line works well for me, "Because your education is priceless, this system....".  Another example that works well is, "Because it saves valuable time, this program...".  Are you starting to get the picture now?  The word "Because" creates a mental image and answers a question to a problem.  This word is very intriguing. 

2.  Now.  This is one of my favorites.  The word 'Now' is an action word.  After all, if your potential subscriber does nothing and takes no action, your efforts are lost.  I come from a sales background, and the word 'Now' creates that sense of urgency.  Examples to use in your email marketing include, "Now, for a limited time, this free report....".  Another example I like to use is, "For NOW, this system  is available for...".

3.  Imagine.  When you use the word 'Imagine' in your subject lines a very powerful mind technique goes to work.  This mind technique was taught to me by Jim Lutes, Quanta co-founder, and world reknown personal development expert.  The word imagine takes the reader inside themselves and  paints a mental picture.  After all, sales is about painting pictures.  For example, "Imagine yourself sitting on the beach and your product is being opened all around the world".  Another example I like to use is, "Imagine receiving $97 payments over and over while you  sleep".  The word 'imagine' is very powerful.

4.  Please.  The word 'please' shows respect.  When you were growing up, what was the one word magic your mother always made you say? That's right, PLEASE.  For example, "Please take the time to read this free report, it will....".  Another example I use is "When your email rates increase, please leave a comment....".  The word please is very helpful in your open-rates.

5.  Thank you.  What usually happens when you open the door for an elder or a lady?  They generally say thank you.  What usually happens when you help another individual achieve an outcome?  They generally say thank you.  If you help another online marketer reach another step toward their desired outcome they will thank you.  For example, I use this subject line, "You wallet will thank you for reading this free report".  Another common example is, "Thank you for subscribing...".

6.  A Person's Name (at end of subject line).  Everyone likes to be called by their first name.  Even in your email autoresponder greeting, always use first name(i.e. - Hi Chris).  Subject line examples  include, "Imagine sitting on the beach Chris".  Or "Did you get your free report Chris?".  Everyone likes to be called by name.  Use first names at the end of your subject line for a higher open-rate.

7.  Use Control Words.  Using control words such as, "You have to decide now...".  Or You're in control here, not me...".  Or, to combine 3 magic power words in one subject line, "You have to decide NOW, CHRIS".  You have used control words combined with the word now, combined with the person's name at the end of the subject  line.  3 in 1 should get'er done. 

Start experimenting using these 7 magic power words and watch your open-rates increase.
